Canada is committed to increasing the percentage of its waters that are covered by marine protected areas (MPAs) to 30% by 2030.

The inclusion of environmental DNA would help ensure marine protected areas meet Canada’s biodiversity targets that are measured and assessed on an ongoing basis to determine the performance of each MPA. This will contribute to a healthy marine environment and support a nature-based solution that addresses the impacts of climate change by protecting marine ecosystems, their habitats and species.

Improving fisheries’ knowledge of stock structure has the potential to improve the setting of quotas and sustainability of the resource – the backbone of the fishing industry. Our technology will improve the efficiency of harvest operations while reducing operating costs, bycatch, time at sea and, ultimately, the corresponding risk.
